Blood Flow Restriction

Innovate Physical Therapy offers blood flow restriction (BFR). This therapy is performed by applying a tourniquet cuff to the upper or lower extremity. The cuff is set to a calculated limb occlusion pressure (LOP). Brief and intermittent occlusion of arterial and venous blood flow occurs while exercise is performed.

Common diagnoses treated with blood flow restriction include:

  • Arthritis
  • Tendinitis
  • ACL/Meniscal Tears
  • Non-union Fractures
  • IT Band Issues
  • Pre-surgical Strengthening
  • Post-surgical Rehabilitation

Blood flow restriction results in greater strength gains while lifting lighter loads, preserved muscle mass and strength during forced inactivity, improved bone density and function, and quicker recover from injury or surgery.
